John Stevenson MP is hosting Carlisle’s 5th annual skills fair on Thursday the 25th January. The event has been a great success in previous years, with thousands of attendees through the Sands Centre’s doors each year.
Carlisle Skills Fair is a great way for local young people and jobseekers to explore their options and find out about the opportunities that businesses and training providers have on offer in the area.
Mr Stevenson said:
“It is important to demonstrate to young people that they don’t have to move away in order to gain the skills and training to be able to get a good career. There are so many opportunities for them right here on their doorstep.
“That’s why I am so pleased that I have been able to establish Carlisle Skills Fair as an annual event. It’s fantastic that people in Carlisle can access our local training and job opportunities under one roof.
“However, none of this would have been possible without the continued support of local training providers and both the big and small companies we have in and around Carlisle. I am very grateful to our sponsors for helping to make this event a reality.”
The main sponsors of Carlisle Skills Fair are Bendalls Engineering, Story Homes and Pirelli.
Simon Williams, Managing Director of Bendalls Engineering, said:
“Bendalls Engineering has a long history operating in Carlisle, designing and manufacturing the highest quality product for some of the most prestigious and demanding customers in the world. We want our young people to be interested in engineering and, ideally, wish to express that interest by staying in the county and joining our team.
“It is critical to the long term economic health of us all that our young people develop and realise their talents here and we see the Skills Fair as a chance to meet them and share the breadth of opportunity Bendalls Engineering can offer.”
Shelley Hayward, Talent and Development Manager at Story Homes, said:
“Story Homes is delighted to be sponsoring the Carlisle Skills fair for the third year. It’s incredibly important for us to showcase the great opportunities available to those that live in our community.
“Story Homes continues to grow and we have some exciting graduate and apprentice opportunities which will be launched early spring 2018. It’s because of events like this that we can ensure we reach out to school leavers and more experienced candidates in our aim to attract more great people in to our company.”
Mario Apollonio, Industrial Director at Pirelli UK, said:
“We have been associated with the Carlisle Skills Fair for the past three years and we are delighted to once again be supporting this fantastic initiative. Our own apprentice programme, which has been running for more than 40 years, is intrinsic to the development opportunities that we offer at our company.
“This event is a fantastic platform to show young people – as well as those currently out of work in the area – exactly what types of roles exist at Pirelli. There will be a number of representatives from our company at the Skills Fair on the day to answer questions about career opportunities.”
Also sponsoring Carlisle Skills Fair is Gen2, RWP Training Ltd, SP Training, CN Group, Carlisle College, The Edge, Newton Rigg College, University of Cumbria, Inspira, JTL, CITB.
