John Stevenson will be organising and hosting a third Carlisle Skills Fair in The Sands Centre on Thursday 28th January 2016.
Due to the success of the previous two Carlisle Skills Fairs, if re-elected, John is keen to continue the annual event that gives young people and job seekers an opportunity to meet with training providers and businesses based in and around Cumbria.
John said ‘The idea to host and organise Carlisle Skills Fair came from a meeting with the manufacturing sector. After two years, the event is now very much established with support from the training providers, businesses, parents, young people and those looking for training and job opportunities.
Unemployment is now very low in Carlisle, however, there continues to be job creation and training opportunities that every person should be aware of. It is no longer the case that you have to go to London or Manchester when you leave school to gain employment or training in your chosen sector. Carlisle now has a wide range of sectors offering apprenticeships and training opportunities.
If re-elected, I will pledge to host and organise a third Carlisle Skills Fair. The event has been a great way to highlight these opportunities in skills and training. It has also served to make people in our City aware of the opportunities that are available to them locally.’
