John Stevenson, MP for Carlisle has been re-elected to chair the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Family Business, at the Annual General Meeting held this week.
The group promotes and facilitates communication and understanding between the UK family business sector and Parliament. It brings together members from all parties and from across both Houses, providing an open forum for discussion of the family business sector and the challenges and opportunities facing the UK’s family businesses in the immediate and longer term.
John has successfully chaired the group since 2011.
Speaking John said, “I am honoured to be able to continue my work as the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Family Business, recognising the important contribution family businesses make to the economy and employing 50% of the UK workforce.
We have many incredible family businesses in Carlisle, with successful stories of investment and business growth. They are key to our local economy and pay an integral part in the Government’s levelling up agenda, employing, retaining and developing local people, creating opportunities for our young people through apprenticeship schemes and generating employment opportunities in other sectors.
I’m delighted to be able to carry on representing the sector in Parliament.”
