John Stevenson MP for Carlisle has welcomed the £19.7 million that was announced today for Carlisle Towns Deal.
A Town Deal is an agreement in principle between government, the Lead Council and the Town Deal Board. It will set out a vision and strategy for the town.
On 6 September 2019 the government invited 100 places to develop proposals for a Town Deal, as part of the £3.6 billion Towns Fund of which Carlisle was one.
John has been a member on the board of Carlisle’s Towns Deal. The application was submitted to the Towns Deal Fund at the end of 2020.
John said ‘This is another huge investment by government into Carlisle. Our city is growing. Last year, the Government awarded Carlisle £1 million of accelerated Towns Deal funding.
There are a number of projects within the Towns Deal that will hugely benefit our city and my constituents. Thanks to the accelerated funding this work in some cases, has already begun.’
