Carlisle MP, John Stevenson, was asked to speak at Stoneraise School by Headteacher, Mr Clem Coady.
John talked to Year 5 and Year 6 students, aged between 9 and 11, about the Houses of Parliament, his role as an MP, democracy and why it is important.
The children were also given the opportunity to quiz the MP regarding his role as a Member of Parliament.
John said:
“It is vital that we encourage young people to take an interest in the way their country is run. It is important that they learn about the democratic process so that their generation is represented and they take care of the world around them.”
“It has been very interesting to talk to the children of Stoneraise School, and it is encouraging to hear that they are already forming opinions in this area.”
