On Thursday 6th February 2020, John Stevenson MP hosted the 7th annual Carlisle Skills Fair at the Sands Centre. This year, around 70 businesses were in attendance, to showcase the opportunities that are on offer on both students’ and other job seekers’ doorsteps.
The Fair enables young people to ask for the information they need about what training and job opportunities are available to them in a specific sector, in preparation for when they leave school. Training providers offering higher education opportunities were also in attendance.
Our main sponsor of this year’s Carlisle Skills Fair was Center Parcs, with Carlisle College also sponsoring the event and providing the exhibitors with an informative lunch before the Skills Fair began. Carlisle Skills Fair’s other sponsors were the University of Cumbria, ICAEW, Inspira, CITB, JTL, Gen2, RWP Training, Cumbria County Council, SP Training, System People, Disability Confident, The Edge and David Campbell Soccer.
Other companies who attended the Fair included Pirelli, Cumbria Constabulary, Pioneer, Dodd and Co, Nestlé, the Animal & Plant Health Agency, Story Contracting, David Allen, AW Jenkinson and Riverside.
Mr Stevenson said: “I am extremely pleased with the turnout at this year’s Carlisle Skills Fair, both in terms of the number of businesses who exhibited at the event and the large number of students and other job seekers who were in attendance throughout the afternoon.
It is important that Carlisle retains its talent, by offering career progression and opportunities, to ensure that young people do not think that they need to move to a larger city.
I am always delighted to hear from the businesses who are based in Carlisle about the number of job and training opportunities that are available. I look forward to hosting future Skills Fairs.”
