On 31st January 2019 from 3pm-7pm, John Stevenson MP hosted the 6th annual Carlisle Skills Fair at the Sands Centre. The event attracted over 60 businesses and hundreds of young people, as well as other jobseekers who wanted to know more about the range of apprenticeships and training providers that are available right on their doorstep.
Carlisle Skills Fair was an excellent chance for young people to get more information from these businesses and training providers. It is important that Carlisle retains its talent by offering career progression and opportunities for those who go to school in the area.
The sponsors at this year’s Skills Fair were Carlisle College, The Cumberland Building Society, Gen2, News & Star, Cumbria County Council, Newton Rigg College, University of Cumbria, JTL, Inspira, RWP Training, The Edge, Disability Confident and SP Training.
Other companies who attended the event included Pioneer Foods, The Body Shop, Pirelli, Tesco, Carlisle United and the Armed Forces.
Mr Stevenson said: “I’m absolutely delighted, it’s a full house from the business community and it’s a good turnout of students with their parents looking at the opportunities this skills fair offers for careers, apprenticeships and I’m delighted with the turnout.”
“It also demonstrates the strength of the Carlisle economy and the opportunities that are out there, and it is really now up to the youngsters to take the opportunities that are in front of them”.
