The Parliamentary Archives provides access to the archives of the House of Lords, the House of Commons and to other records relating to Parliament.
John was particularly interested in Acts that had a direct impact on Carlisle. He was fortunate to be able to see the Acts relating to the implementation and the repealing of the nationalisation of the pubs in Carlisle.
John said ‘I have a keen interest in our city’s history and it was great to be able to see a little piece of our past. Carlisle was the only city in the country to have nationalised pubs and the Acts to allow that and indeed to put an end to it was passed by Parliament.
Our country has such a rich history and the Parliamentary Archives do a fantastic job of preserving an aspect of this.’
