John Stevenson, MP for Carlisle has backed plans for Silver Sunday, the National Day for Older People set to take place this year, on Sunday 2nd October.
Initially launched as a local campaign to tackle loneliness and isolation, Silver Sunday is now a national day where people of all generations come together by hosting fun and free activities for older people. It is a day where older people can meet new people, visit new places, try new activities and connect with their local communities and the generations around them.
In 2021 there were more than 750 events for older people across the UK, organised by local groups, businesses and volunteers.
Commenting John said, “This is a great initiative and one which I very much welcome. Small acts of kindness can mean a great deal and anyone and everyone can take part. I would encourage people and organisations across Carlisle to come together to make this the biggest Silver Sunday yet by either putting on a Silver Sunday event, or helping others who are planning on getting involved or simply saving the date and taking part.”
