John Stevenson MP hosted a Question and Answer session at Botcherby Community Centre for the Carlisle Carers Mental Health Group on Friday 6th April.
John was invited to meet with Carlisle Carers by the Chair of the Mental Health Group, Alan Desborough when John visited the Carlisle Carers Allotment in November.
At the meeting John spoke about his experiences of working in Parliament and answered a number of questions raised by the carers.
John said:
“It was good to discuss the issues highlighted by the carers and to find out more about the challenges faced by people with mental health problems and by the people caring for those with mental health problems.
Mr Stevenson said:
“Tackling poor mental health must be a priority and I am glad that the Government has now legislated to treat it with the same importance as physical health.
“Progress is being made with more investment in mental health and an estimated 1,400 more people accessing mental health services every day compared to 2010.
“Despite our progress, we still have a long way to go, which is why it is so important that we have many more conversations like this in the future.
“The meeting with Carlisle Carers has been so useful because it is vital that I am well informed of the issues affecting my constituents so that I can represent them effectively and highlight their concerns with the Government.”
