Carlisle MP John Stevenson and Conservative Councillor Nick Marriner, are hopeful that progress can be made in their efforts to de- trunk the major A69 route from the Brampton roundabout to Junction 43 of the M6.
In a recent response to John Stevenson, National Highways stated that evidence and recommendations have been submitted to the Department for Transport (DfT) which includes the de-trunking of the A69 and the trunking of the A689.
A response is awaited from DfT to see if the recommendations will be taken forward.
The campaign started when residents along the route raised concerns at the impact of heavy goods vehicles travelling through villages, close to homes and along school routes.
Commenting John said, “I am delighted that National Highways have taken our representations to the next stage. It is imminently sensible that an appropriate solution is found to address the concerns of those living in the area. I look forward to a further response from DfT in due course.”
