The Coalition Government has announced that Regional Development Agencies and the Commission for Rural Communities are to be abolished.
The London Development Agency and eight RDAs are non-departmental public bodies which aim to promote local economic development in the regions of England.
Replacing RDAs will be Local Enterprise Partnerships, where local councillors and local businesses will work together.
The Government has also announced in the budget plans to establish a Regional Growth Fund, aimed at helping communities most dependent on the public sector and the more northern regions of Britain.
John Stevenson commented from Westminster: “I believe the Government’s decision to abolish RDAs in favour of Local Enterprise Partnerships and introducing a Regional Growth Fund will be much more beneficial to Carlisle. It is now the responsibility of the local council to have a proactive role in bringing funding to the city and the region. I will certainly support them wherever I can.”
John believes that such partnership may help with the post renaissance arrangements in Carlisle.
