Carlisle MP, John Stevenson, has been invited by the UK Atomic Energy Authority to visit their facility at Culham, Oxford. The facility currently hosts the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, which hosts JET – the world’s largest magnetic fusion experiment.
The visit will include an opportunity to see the JET reactor, and learn about the fusion project which is supporting the ITER programme in Southern France.
John will also be meeting the Chief Executive, Ian Chapman to talk about the fusion research carried out in the UK. The supply chain which supports this research has also had cross-over with nuclear decommissioning and will look at supporting the new build programme.
“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to see this technology.
“I believe nuclear power is important for the future of our energy security and the success of our economy here in Cumbria. Therefore it is important that we learn to harness it to its full potential.”
