A message from John:
"I am running the Great Cumbrian Run this year for our local hospice; Eden Valley.
I would be delighted if by undertaking this challenge I could raise some funds to help support the hospice and the work which they do, caring for those in their time of need in our community."

Update 25th October - Arrival and A Big Thank You:
John and his team have not only reached Westminster but also the £10,000 mark in sponsorship money towards the Eden Valley Hopsice charity organisation!
A huge thank you goes out to all those who have donated to the cause, the support has been fantastic and we are thrilled to be able to show Eden Valley Hopsice just how much the local community cares with a real boost to their much needed funds.
Update 21st October - Journey Start Day:
And they're off! As of this morning at 08:30am, John and the team of riders who are already riding with him began their first day of the Carlisle to Wetminster 'Bike2Parliament' Cycle Challenge 2010!
Pictured on the left is the team meeting with Carole Ferguson of the Eden Valley Hospice, the charity organisation that the team has been raising funds for over the last few months. If you would like to donate please use the link at the bottom of this webpage.
Pictured below we have some extra race-day shots for you, on the left is the support vehicle with all the corporate sponsorship center-stage and on the right the team stands ready for one last photograph before the long ride to Westminster!
Extra Event Information:
Earlier this year, John Stevenson pledged to cycle to the Houses of Parliament from the Carlisle constituency were he to be successful in the forthcoming general election. In May 2010, John was elected as the Member of Parliament for Carlisle and realised that in addition to his new duties as MP he would also need to switch his training regime from running to cycling!
Rather than take the direct route to Westminster, John and his team will follow 440 miles of Sustrans cycle paths, leaving Carlisle on Thursday 21 October and arriving at the Houses of Parliament on Monday 25 October, averaging just under 90 miles in the saddle each day.
The team has chosen to raise funds for the Eden Valley Hospice, a charity which is close to the hearts of many of the team members. Eden Valley Hospice provides specialised palliative care for terminally ill patients and their families along with a supporting services, free of charge throughout North Cumbria. It also operates a Children's Hospice that cares for life-limited children and their families across Cumbria and the South of Scotland.
